Питер Мулине (Peter Molyneux) очень любит давать интервью. Он всегда с удовольствием беседует с журналистами, но практически никогда ничего не говорит непосредственно о продуктах, над которыми сам работает. Зато он рассказывает много другого. К примеру, недавно главный дизайнер Fable 2 заявил, что у PlayStation 3 (PS3) всё ещё нет важных определяющих игр.
У каждой консоли есть проекты, которые прочно с ней ассоциируются. У Wii есть Wii Sports и Wii Play, у Xbox 360 — Gears of War (а, возможно, и Fable 2). У PlayStation 3 подобного определяющего продукта пока нет. По крайней мере, так считает руководитель Lionhead.
PS3 still waiting for its defining games - Molyneux
Xbox 360 developer Peter Molyneux has said that the PlayStation 3 is still waiting for the handful of games that will define the console in the eyes of the consumer.
Speaking in an exclusive interview published today, the Lionhead boss noted that the Wii already has its two defining games, and he hopes his latest title – Fable 2 – could be a game synonymous with the Xbox 360.
"It is always one or two games which define a platform - it's the same for the Wii, and the PlayStation 2," offered Molyneux.
"I think the PlayStation 3 is still waiting for that definition title that represents the platform - and I think that's what hardware manufacturers need to do, find that defining title.
"Nintendo did a brilliant job of doing that at launch with games like Wii Sports and Wii Play - maybe Fable 2 is a defining title. But you are talking to the proud father of this game, so you can't ask me to be tremendously objective," he added.
Fable 2 for the Xbox 360 is set to release the week before LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3, and Molyneux believes the game – developed by former Lionhead staff – could be one of the titles that will define Sony's console by enticing new audiences to videogames.
"I'm incredibly proud of what they've done, and it's just an amazing experience to see how their game has progressed," he said.
"If we want to bring people in who haven't played games before, wherever they are in the world and whatever their cultural background, whatever their sex or age, then we've got to think out of the box and start creating stuff which fascinates those people. I think LBP could be one of those."
