my last trip

I travelled by train only once in my life. The trip was long. We could not get tickets for the plane and decided to go by train. We took a taxi and went to the railway station. Now I think that it was rather a rash action to take such a long trip by train. Our destination was Vladivostok. First my parents went to the booking-office and bought single tickets for a through train. The fare was rather high but we didn’t have to change. There was only a few minutes left before the departure of the train. When we heard the announcement we hurried to the platform. Our carriage was the last but one. The attendant checked our tickets and we got on the train. Hardly had we got on when the train started. We got into the compartment and put our suitcases on the luggage-rack. As for me I chose the upper berth.
During our long journey we read books, did crosswords, listened to the radio. We had our meals in the buffet-car. The journey was long and we made friends with our carriage-mates and had a good time together. They told us many interesting stories. When the train stopped at the stations we got off and bought newspapers and magazines. When I did not feel like reading I just looked out of the window and enjoyed the scenery.
