In the spring of 1710 Peter reaped military fruits of the Poltava victory. Russian armies, without meeting resistance, have swept on the Baltic provinces of Sweden. While in the south Sheremetev\'s 30-thousand army besieged Riga, on the northwest Peter has sent general admiral Feodor Apraksin who has just become by the count and the privy councillor. At the head of a 18-thousand army it should besiege Vyborg - a city on Karelian isthmus, in seventy five miles to the northwest from Petersburg. In 1706 Russian armies unsuccessfully tried to grasp Vyborg from a land, but now they had new possibilities - on pleasure to Peter, has grown and the Baltic fleet has got stronger. Having familiarised with the siege plan, Peter has enjoined to take to Apraksin a city by all means, and itself on a small little craft has returned to Petersburg. On June, 13th, 1710 Vyborg with garrison in 154 officers and 3726 soldiers has surrendered to Apraksin, and to the north from Petersburg there was стомильная a protective strip.
