People are afraid of lots of things. There are many ___DIFFERENT__ kinds of fears called phobias. They affect at least a quarter of the __POPULATION__. It doesn’t work for everybody but when it does, it is very __EFFECTIVE__. People, who take the pill feel much better – most of their fears __DISAPPEAR_.
Michael could not imagine his life without computers. His parents ___BOUGHT____ him his first computer at the age of seven. It took ____HIM__ several days to learn how to use it. His mum said that the younger people were, the ____FASTER____ they could learn computer skills. That was probably true – most __CHILDREN___ in Michael’s class were very competent computer users. Michael was really surprised to find out that the first personal computer ___WAS INVENTED___ in the 70’s of the last century.
“And how did you chat or send your e-mails without computers?” he asked his mother.
She smiled: “We __DID NOT SEND____ each other e-mails. And there were no networks.”
She also said that it ___WAS___ fun to communicate face-to-face, to play out-of-doors and to visit friends’ homes.
“But if there__WERE__ no computers, I wouldn’t be able to communicate with my friends who live far away from me,” Michael replied.“True. Technological progress is a great thing,” his mother said “And I think people ___WILL CREATE___ even more amazing communication devices in the near future.”
When you look at this lovely house in the Welsh countryside, you may think it's a picture from J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Hobbit". In fact it's a real house designed by a real person. When ___THEIR____ first son was born, Simon Dale’s wife, Jasmine, said:
“I wish we __LIVED___ in the country. It would be so good for the baby”.
However, they __DID NOT HAVE___ enough money to buy or rent a house in the country so they decided to take matters into their own hands. The house _WAS BUILT_ by Simon himself, with a bit of help from his friends. The result was impressive. The home is made of natural materials, such as wood, stone and mud. It uses solar panels for energy and its water __COMES___ from a nearby spring. It took Simon four months to complete his fairytale home. He managed to create a modern wooden eco-home – one of the ___MOST WONDERFUL__ houses you can imagine.
Simon Dale said, “I ___HAVE STARTED___ working on a new house of the same eco-style. My __SECOND__ house will be smarter than the first one. My son _________IS__ five now and I hope to celebrate his tenth birthday in a new house.”
Every year the world goes dark for one hour, the Earth Hour. The event is organised by the ________INTERNATIONAL__________ World Wildlife Fund. At tourist destinations, in offices and private homes, lights are switched off for one hour at _________EXACTLY_________ 8:00 pm. The idea is to show that our planet is in danger and it needs care and _________PROTECTION_________. It's ________IMPOSSIBLE__________ to remain indifferent to changes in the climate which go on and on. The Earth Hour is not about saving an hour’s electricity. It’s about realising that we live on a _________WONDERFUL_________ planet and need to look after it – not just for an hour a year but every day. The Earth Hour is a part of an _________ECOLOGICAL_________ education whose aim is to make people understand their responsibility to the planet.
