The Ukraine's Yana Klochkova is one of the outstanding swimmers on the women's circuit, reigning supreme in the individual medley, where she is Olympic and world champion over both 200 metres and 400m.
At 18 she set the 400m medley world record with her Olympic gold medal winning performance of 4min 33.59sec beating Chen Yan's old mark - and the record still stands.
In the last big test before defending her Olympic titles at Athens 2004, Klochkova powered her way to a second 400m medley title and her first 200m medley gold at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona.
Of the four medley disciplines freestyle is her strongest, a strength that brought her a silver in the 800m freestyle at Sydney and a gold in the 2001 World Championships over 400m.
After Barcelona her tally of world titles in long and short-course stands at 10, while her European exploits have brought her 17 continental gold medals.
She is a national hero in the Ukraine, where she has been twice won the Sports Personality of the Year award. All this is even more impressive when one considers she will still only be 22 when she takes to the pool in Greece.
She was born in Simferepol, the Ukraine on August 7 1982. Her parents were both involved in athletics and Yana herself began swimming at the age of seven.
Within eight years, as a precocious 15-year-old, she won silver medals in the 400m medley at both the European and world championships!
Since then, the medals have been largely gold in her chosen disciplines and there is little to suggest this flow will stop.
She also set a new European record of 2min 08.28sec in the short course 200m medley in 2002 to add to the one she set at Sydney of 2min 10.88 in the long.
Meanwhile she has swapped the chilly climes of the Ukraine to train in the balmier temperatures of Houston, Texas, perhaps because it resembles that of Athens.
